The Path

A decade of becoming a different kind of leader

15 years of experience from LinkedIn to Instacart — IC to Engineering Director leading 50+ engineers. A senior leader's perspective on how performance, promotion, and influence actually work. Each transition required becoming a different kind of leader:

IC to Tech Lead — it stopped being about my code
Tech Lead to Manager — the scoreboard changed and nobody told me
Manager to Senior Manager — my job became replacing myself
Senior Manager to Director — politics weren't optional anymore
Director to my own shape — I walked away from the title to build a resilient career

What carried me through each rewrite: seeing what I was already great at, doubling down on what was worth building, letting go of what no longer fit. I help clients do the same — that's the shape of the work.
